Access solution for refurbished London offices

Motala 2000 vertical lift

Wenlock Works

Project

The Platform Lift Company was appointed by Thirdway to provide a suitable access solution which would integrate with their Cat A + scheme to the ground and lower ground floors to Wenlock Works London.

Wenlock Works refurbished contemporary office suites have been designed in parallel with the unique industrial architecture of Shoreditch. The introduction of the two new units created a need for a platform lift to service the lower ground floor and the upper ground floor.

Access Solution

Thirdway specified a platform lift that could be built with a unique finish, comfortably reach a total travel of 3555mm and fit in the existing shaft in the building. The Platform Lift Company proposed the Motala 2000 as the best product to meet the desired requirements. Part M Compliant, this model of lift has the largest platform size with the smallest external footprint in the market. Other features include low noise level and energy efficient dual guided chain system.

The lift with a fully glazed door was supplied with a special narrow platform to accommodate the current shaft. A nonstandard colour RAL 9005 jet black finish was used to tally with the other structural elements and materials used within the space. Glazed panels were incorporated in the design of the lift shaft on the upper ground level which contribute to the undisturbed open environment flooded with natural light from the large industrial-style windows.

Results

Installation of the platform lift was carried out within a two-day period with minimal building works. The three-stop platform lift has successfully made both floors of the two new units fully accessible from the street level entrance and overcome the steps between office suites.  The clean lines of the platform lift are in keeping with the timeless appearance of this space designed to appeal to the creative community of Shoreditch.
