Unick Consulting Ltd appointed The Platform Lift Company to provide a platform lift solution for TIVOLI, a new boutique cinema in Central Bath.

An access solution was required to overcome the physical barrier of a staircase leading up to the luxury studios and screens of the stylish new art-house cinema. Lack of available space and the fact that the 2.5 metre staircase was the only means of access to the screens presented a challenge as an open style platform lift would halve the stairs.

Access Solution 

The Platform Lift Company recommended the FlexStep which is a 2-in-1 solution that can be configured as a flight of stairs and transformed at the touch of a button into a platform lift. This provided an ideal fit as the FlexStep can be built with different step widths and step heights, and customers can choose from a variety of materials and finishes to complement the existing interior design.

Half of the staircase was replaced with a custom made FlexStep with treads in the same timber as the existing steps. The Platform Lift Company also suggested matching the aged brass handrails used on the staircase to create design continuity.

Results 

By using a 2-in-1 platform lift, the cinema benefits from having the whole width of the staircase available for high footfalls and at the touch of a button, a platform lift solution for customers unable to manage the steps. The overall effect looks seamless and in keeping with the exclusive boutique interior of the cinema.
