Contemporary Disabled Lift Access for Retail

Hugo Boss, Sloane Square

Requirement: Leading retailer, Hugo Boss, requested a contemporary-designed disabled access wheelchair lift for its flagship store in Sloane Square. The client specifically wanted a glazed and stainless steel finish to the DDA compliant passenger lift to complement its brand image, but to remain sympathetic to the Grade 2 listed building. The lift installation needed to be completed in 10 to 12 weeks.

Solution: Being a listed building meant the lift design had architectural constraints; for example, the pit could only be 300mm deep. This limited the lift mechanics housing space and the amount of headroom available. An Internal Vertical platform lift was specified, as this lift solution is easily modified.

The Platform Lift Company worked closely with a lift consultant and the building contractor and overcame all of the architectural restriction issues.

Benefits: The project was a rapid installation. The access solution was modified and fitted within the given timescale. All floors are now fully wheelchair accessible and compliant with DDA standards, the Machinery Directive, BS (British Standard) 6440:1999 and EN81-41 (European Standard). The lift has become a key feature of the Hugo Boss Store.
