Fulham Senior School

A vertical platform lift case study

Fulham Senior School

Project

A vertical platform lift was necessary for the refurbishment of Fulham Senior School. The Platform Lift Company was chosen by 8Build, the main contractor for the project to provide a product which met the specification.

The contractor required a platform lift solution which could service up to three floors. This would provide an alternative access solution for people with impaired mobility including wheelchair users, the elderly or parents with pushchairs, wanting to reach the first and second floors of the newly refurbished school building.

Access Solution

A hydraulic cabin platform lift was selected as the best product for the to suit the school’s requirements. It delivers the same comfortable user experience expected of a conventional passenger lift; the only difference is the speed (0.15m/s) which is in keeping with the Machinery Directive. Features include one touch controls, optional digital display and key switch. This type of lift is ideal for low-usage environments such as schools.

To fit the available space, the design of the platform lift was slightly modified by using swing doors instead of the standard sliding doors. Platform Lift Company qualified engineers installed the new cabin platform lift within 5 days with minimal disruption and building work.

Results

The modern and clean appearance of the product fitted in perfectly with the newly refurbished interior and complemented surrounding architectural features such as the stainless-steel staircase.

The new cabin platform lift provided cost-effective, energy efficient, step free access from the newly designed atrium to the school’s common areas and classrooms.
