Evans Cycles

Wheelchair access for retail store

Requirement: Wheelchair access for national retail chain

With the installation of a platform lift, Evans Cycles wanted to provide wheelchair access for customers and visitors to their new retail outlet and service centre in Rathbone Place, London W1.

It was essential that the design fitted with the store décor, matched the store branding and took up the minimum retail floor space.

Solution: Branded, steel panelled platform lift

Working closely with the main contractor, Cordery Build Ltd, a contemporary steel panelled design platform lift was created to sit within the stairwell whilst minimising any impact on retail space.

Based on a their detailed site survey, the design team specified a “nut & screw” platform lift that has a small footprint, a 50mm ramp (no pit required) and a motor room integral within the shaft. The solid Ral 9003 steel panels also meant that Evans Cycles could cost effectively brand the inside of the lift shaft.

Benefits: DDA compliant store access

The initial site survey meant that, on the day of installation, both the delivery to site and the install went without a hitch and without disruption to other works on site. The type of lift that was proposed also meant that there was minimal building work required to complete the installation.

With a steel panelled, pre-build lift shaft and fully glazed doors, the lift has a contemporary look and feel, fitting perfectly within a modern retail setting.

Comprehensive training was provided at the point that the store was handed over to staff meaning the lift was operational from day one, providing full DDA compliant store access for disabled visitors.
