Platform Lift takes theatre to a new level

The New Vic Theatre in Staffordshire has installed a bespoke platform lift to create ease of access to their new state-of-the-art community studio and to the prop and costume storage area.

The Platform Lift Company modified its A99 platform lift by incorporating a Key Switch on the carriage to ensure that only authorised members of staff can access the basement area. Two glazed panels were also incorporated within the design to provide a contemporary lift entrance to remain in keeping with the venue’s interior.

With a load capacity for 1000kgs, the modified A99 Type lift has provided The New Vic Theatre with an ideal access solution for wheelchair users, and is an effective way of moving props and equipment from floor to floor. David Sunnuck, Front of House Manager at the New Vic Theatre, comments:

“On the whole, the lift has been very reliable. It is now easier for wheelchair users and for our stage management team, who are often moving large props around. We are delighted with the result.”

By digging a 200mm pit into the floor and attaching a small location fixing to the walls and floors, the platform lift was easily installed with minimal disruption.
