Access for All for Disabled Students

Requirement: Access all areas for disabled students

As part of a planned refurbishment, architects specified the installation of a platform lift to enable disabled students to access all areas in the postgraduate offices of the sustainable research building at The University of Nottingham.

Solution: Internal Platform Lift

After briefing meetings with the University management team, architect and main contractor, B & M Installations, a comprehensive site survey was completed to access the most appropriate platform lift to install and to understand any access and installation challenges that might arise.

An ‘A1 internal platform lift’ was specified by The Platform Lift Company design team to maintain maximum space within the building. With no requirement for a machine room and all the control systems within the shaft, this product met all of the architect’s requirements and had the smallest footprint.

Benefits: Full disabled access between floors

Thanks to the meticulous survey and planning process adopted by the design and installation teams, the platform lift installation went smoothly and to time. Staff training was carried out by the installation team as part of the commissioning and handover process to ensure that all health and safety issues were addressed.

The refurbished building now offers all visitors easy access to all levels. And, with a support contract in place, the Universities’ facilities team have complete peace of mind when it comes to smooth operation, 24/7.
