Bognor Makerspace promotes inclusive environment as a result of our vertical platform lift solution

Project

The Bognor Makerspace required a platform lift solution for their warehouse in Bognor Regis which provides a community resource where people gather to learn creative and building skills. Creating ease of access to the mezzanine floor of the building would not only make available additional learning space but also meet the requirements of a funding application to ‘Reaching Communities England’ a National Lottery programme for organisations that work with their communities.

Disability Access Solution

The Platform Lift Company carried out a site survey of the warehouse to assess the available space and any height restrictions. Because the wheelchair lift would need to travel over 3 metres to reach the mezzanine floor the client was given the option of either an enclosed cabin style lift or platform lift. The Motala 2000 platform lift provided the best solution due to its price point and its standard white finish which fitted the modern warehouse environment.

Results

The installation of the platform lift solution was carried out with minimal impact to the existing building and has made a big difference to the Makerspace’s offering to the community. People with physical disabilities, or who are less able, use the platform lift daily to reach workshops taking place on the upper mezzanine floor. The lift is also used by parents with children and buggies.

The addition of the platform lift was crucial to the Makerspace’s successful application for funding and, now installed, the team can promote a fully inclusive environment to the local community.
